Market finds July 3, 2010

The weather was beautiful market morning.  July, absolutely, but low humidity and relatively cool temps.  We (me and daughters) got there around 8am (opening hour) and had a lovely and productive stroll.  I love this time of year!  We were having some guests for dinner (picnic) so I was really looking for some exciting stuff and wasn't disappointed.

Of course we bought mushrooms, tomatoes, corn, beans, zucchini.

And, again of course, we bought all our berries...blue, black, red-rasp.   This week the berry provider made little boxes of mixed berries (blue, rasp, black, straw) that were just perfect to rinse and serve for dessert.

Lots of fruit is finally showing up in the market.  Husband and daughters love fruit.  I do too, but I watch my portions.  Lots of sweetness and carbs in that fruit...but also lots of water and fiber.  I watch my portion to keep all of that in balance.

There were still cherries...and (new this week!) little sugar plums...

PEACHES!!

and (another first this week) sugar baby watermelon, yellow watermelon, and cantaloupe ...all JERSEY FRESH...

And, finally, for a treat, because they are so fragile....squash blossoms

Hope you've found a market near you and are enjoying the fresh fruits of summer as much as we are.
